Answers to Quiz

Context Parent

1: What would happen to the appearance of the notepad if you "outdented" (moved to the left) the item Get quote on directory space?

The item Prepare advertising budget would disappear from the notepad.

2: Why?

The notepad is displaying the contents of the To-Do's folder. The only reason that Prepare advertising budget is shown in the notepad is to provide context for its subitem, Get quote on directory space, which is assigned to the To-Do's folder (notice the entry in the To-Do's column for Get quote on directory space.) Once you "outdent" Get quote on directory space, it's no longer a subitem of Prepare advertising budget; and because Prepare advertising budget is not itself assigned to the To-Do's folder (note that it has no column entry), there's no reason to continue to display it.

3: What would happen if you deleted the date in the To-Do's column next to Pick up laundry?

The item would disappear from the notepad.

4: Why?

The notepad is displaying the contents of the To-Do's folder, which is a Date folder. Every item in a Date folder requires a Date value, which the item and the folder jointly own. The column represents the To-Do's folder and shows the values that the folder owns in partnership with each assigned item. When you delete one of the values, the item no longer owns a value in partnership with the To-Do's folder, so the item is no longer assigned to the folder. Since the item is not assigned to the folder, it is no longer displayed in the notepad.
