ECCO Pro Technote

Palm 3 Install

It is assumed that you are using at least ECCO Pro version 4.01.1. This technote is designed for users of the Pilot synchronization feature version 4.0.1.1. The ECCO version number can be found by selecting About ECCO on the Help menu then by selecting the system information button. This technote is being offered as a suggestive measure, however, it does not guarantee successful synchronization between the Palm III and Ecco Pro.

Note If you are not using ECCO Pro 4.0.1.1, you should obtain and install a new version of ECCO before proceeding. Please see the NetManage website at http://www.netmanage.com/products/eccopro for and download the EccoPro4 Maintenance Patch (update32.exe) and then install it.

If you have never owned a Palm Pilot or Pilot 5000

If you have never owned any pilot before purchasing your palm 3, simply install your pilot desktop software. Please note: When the pilot software asked you which directory to install the software, you will want to change it from Palm to Pilot. Once this is installed, you will need to Re-install the Ecco 4.0.1.1 Patch (see below).

Re-installing ECCO Pro 4.0.1.1 Patch

    1. Run the setup for ECCO Pro 4.0.1.1 patch (update32.exe) and be sure the Pilot Link Files checkbox is selected.
    2. ECCO Pro 4.0.1.1 is installed with the new ECCO/Pilot synchronization conduits.

    3. As a precaution, restart your computer.
    4. Start ECCO.

If you have previously had a Palm Pilot or Pilot 5000 install on your computer

If you have previously owned and installed another pilot product, you will want to make sure it is all reference to it is totally deleted from your hard drive.

To begin you need to close down all programs running in the background. To do this you will want to hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and end task on everything except explorer. Next, through windows explorer, you will want to find the Pilot and Ecco/Pilot directory (you may have one or the other instead of both). Once found you will want to highlight that directory and then delete it. Once done, you will proceed to modify the windows registry (see below).

Modifying the Windows Registry

Registry Editor is an advanced tool that enables you to change settings in your system registry, which contains information, about how your computer runs.

Note Exercise extreme caution when editing the Windows Registry. You may want to make a backup of the Registry. See the Registry Editor online help for exporting and importing the Registry.

    1. Run the Microsoft Windows Registry Editor.
    2. Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 users should choose the Start button on the taskbar, then choose Run. Type REGEDIT, then choose the OK button.

Note If you are using Windows NT 3.5x, choose Run from the File menu in Program Manager. Type REGEDT32.EXE, then choose the OK button.

Your Windows Registry may not contain all of the following sections. This technote is written to cover all conceivable configurations. If one of the following Registry sections does not exist on your system, proceed to the next step.

    3. In the Windows Registry, expand the following folder:
    4. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE,

      Software,

      Netmanage,

      ECCO,

      Pilot

    5. Delete the Pilot folder.
    6. In the Windows Registry, expand the following folder:
    7. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE,

      Software,

      Netmanage,

      Pilot

    8. Delete the Pilot folder.
    9. In the Windows Registry, expand the following folder:
    10. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE,

      Software,

      Pilot

    11. Delete the Pilot folder.
    12. In the Windows Registry, expand the following folder:
    13. HKEY_CURRENT_USER,

      Software,

      Palm Computing

    14. Delete the Palm Computing folder.
    15. In the Windows Registry, expand the following folder:
    16. HKEY_CURRENT_USER,

      Software,

      Netmanage,

      ECCO,

      PALM COMPUTING

    17. Delete the Palm Computing folder.
    18. In the Windows Registry, expand the following folder:
    19. HKEY_CURRENT_USER,

      Software,

      Netmanage,

      PALM COMPUTING

    20. Delete the Palm Computing folder.
    21. Close the Windows Registry Editor.

Once the registry is clean, you will want to install your Palm 3 desktop software. When you are asked during the pilot install which directory to install the software, change the default Palm to Pilot. Once this is installed, you will need to Re-install the Ecco 4.0.1.1 Patch.
